Releasing The Dog From an Exercise

Taken from a Posting to Acme Doghouse Bulletin Board 4/28/98

With all our discussions of what to do and how to do it, I don't remember anyone mentioning the command to release a dog from an exercise, to say to the dog relax, all done. This is just as important as the command to begin an exercise since an exercise should be clearly defined for the dog.

Personally, I use "Okay!" spoken happily and with a smile. If I want my dog to jump with the release I raise both my hands to shoulder height. Some dogs have to be spoken to more quietly.

Other people use the word "Free!" to mean the same thing.

Any word will do, as long as you are consistant.
